What if you did not have to find every candidate yourself?
Imagine having dozens of respected people throughout your community who understood the type of employee you needed and actively introduced you to strong candidates.
That is how effective sales leaders multiply their recruiting reach.
Stop Recruiting Alone
Most sales leaders think:
“I need to find more candidates.”
Successful recruiters think differently:
“I need more people finding candidates for me.”
Your personal time is limited. Your network, however, can continue growing.
The people who help you identify candidates are called Centers of Influence, or COIs.
These are individuals who:
- Know many people
- Are respected within their communities
- Understand what makes someone successful
- Are willing to introduce you to promising candidates
They do not need to be famous. They simply need to be connected and trusted.
Choose the Right Centers of Influence
People often refer candidates who are similar to themselves.
Therefore, build relationships with COIs who are:
- Successful
- Dependable
- Respected
- Well-connected
- Professional
The stronger the people in your network, the stronger their referrals are likely to be.
A Simple Three-Step Plan
1. Build a List of 50 Centers of Influence
Begin with people you already know:
- Customers
- Friends
- Business contacts
- Community leaders
- Professional service providers
Then expand the list as you build more relationships.
2. Meet With Three to Five Each Week
These meetings only need to last 10 to 15 minutes.
Explain:
- The career opportunity
- The qualities you want in a candidate
- Why the position could benefit the right person
- How the COI can introduce potential candidates
You are not asking them to sell the position. You are simply teaching them what to notice.
3. Follow Up Every 60 to 90 Days
People become busy and forget.
A short email or conversation keeps your hiring needs visible so they remember you when they meet someone exceptional.
Multiply Your Recruiting Reach
If you meet with three to five COIs each week, you can build a network of approximately 50 recruiting partners within 10 to 15 weeks.
Instead of relying entirely on job boards or your own limited reach, you create a community of people continually watching for talent.
The Bottom Line
Great sales leaders do not recruit alone.
They build relationships with trusted people who help them discover candidates hidden throughout the community.
Start today by writing down 10 respected, well-connected people you already know.
Then contact one of them.
That single conversation could lead to your next great hire.
